What is a Chakra?

Benefits of learning chakras.

Chakra Basics.

The benefits of learning about your own chakra system will enable you to gain balance in  mind, body and spirit and bring all into harmony. When all of your  chakra centres are communicating equally and working in alliance with each other, you will have more physical energy, deal with stress easier and will feel strong and alert.

Chakras are used in many holistic subjects.  Reiki, Crystal healing and Chakra therapy to name a few.
Chakra is a Sanskrit word that translates as wheel or disc or turning. It is pronounced "sharrkra". It is a concept referring to wheel-like vortices which, according to traditional Indian medicine are believed to exist in the surface of the etheric double of man.
They are energy centers. Looking like a mini tornado, they touch down on a point on your physical body. As they spin, they grow out in a ever-increasing trumpet shape, moving through the various layers of the aura and beyond. They are the focal points for your recieving and transmitting Universal energy.

There are seven major chakras but there are many more located all around our bodies and beyond.  Followers of Hinduism and New Age Spirituality believe the chakras interact with the bodys endocrine glands and lymphatic system by feeding in good bio-energies and disposing of unwanted bio-energies.

There are many ways to visualise your Chakras. Many see them as a lotus flower, with petals which can open up to represent your opening to energies. Some see them as a wheel, with a various number of spokes. Others as the mini- tornado spinning. It dosen't matter how you visualise them!

Scientific proof of chakras.
I keep hearing how there is scientific proof of the chakras. I have searched and can not come up with the original proof. If you know where I can find it, please e-mail me where I can find the evidence and I can update this!

So basically, the shape and colours of the chakras have been added for a visualising purpose. However, chakra work responds to a lot of people. It has many origins and those ideas must have come from somewhere? If it works on a placebo effect, who cares? As long as it works and improves our state of mind and health then I am happy to continue using it.
